![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Independent Mobility Systems, Toyota Debut Wheelchair-Accessible Sienna Minivan in the United States Accessible vehicle launched in Los Angeles, California Farmington, NM -- September 11, 2003 -- Under an exclusive agreement with Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc., Independent Mobility Systems (IMS) of Farmington, New Mexico, delivered its first Sienna Rampvan, the first wheelchair-accessible Toyota vehicle available in the United States. "IMS has been building mobility vans for more than 15 years. This exclusive agreement with Toyota is the first of its kind and we are thrilled to have such as supportive partner in putting this quality product out into the marketplace," said Greg Anesi, president of IMS. IMS will offer two versions of the Sienna Rampvan: the Rampvan Infloor and the Rampvan Foldout. The Rampvan Infloor features a 10-inch lowered floor and a right-side entry ramp that stows beneath the floor of the vehicle. The lowered floor increases interior headroom, decreases the ramp angle, and makes the vehicle easier to enter and exit. The 30-inch-wide ramp platform has a full one-inch lip on either side and deploys horizontally from a pocket under the floor, dropping to the ground at the end of its extension. Full-ramp extension requires only five seconds after the side power-sliding door is fully opened. In case of power failure, the conversion also incorporates a simple manual ramp deployment system. |
